The Rice University Summer Engineering Innovation Program is a hands-on, interdisciplinary initiative designed for engineering graduate students to tackle real-world challenges using cutting-edge technologies: Artificial Intelligence, Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and Industry 4.0. Over the course of 10 weeks, students will gain experience working in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with industry partners, and applying advanced tools to prototype innovative solutions.

Project-Based Learning: Students work on industry-sponsored or student-led projects.

Boot Camp Curriculum: Gain experience working in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with industry partners, and applying advanced tools to prototype innovative solutions.

Mentorship & Talks: Weekly guest speakers from leading sectors, including aerospace, energy, manufacturing.

Demo Day: Present final projects to industry leaders and win recognition.

Ideal Candidates: Engineering students, with preference given to professional graduate, Master’s and PhD students. Accepted students will receive a stipend upon full program participation.

Summary: Every week, thousands of Houston residents line up or log in to register their newly purchased vehicles. What should be a simple process often turns into hours of paperwork, confusion over forms, missing documents, and repeated trips to the tax office. As part of Rice University’s Summer Engineering Innovation Program (SEIP), our student team is tackling this head-on with dmv-agent.ai, a web app that transforms the Texas motor-vehicle title registration experience from a 2-hour headache into a 10-minute process.
Our solution allows users to:

  • Take photos or upload documents like a Driver’s License and Certificate of Title
  • Use OCR to extract key information and auto-fill official forms like the 130-U
  • Avoid common errors that cause costly delays or rejections

Our solution combines AI and process automation to solve a common problem. We’re not just building software — we’re solving a daily frustration for Texans, especially seniors, first-time buyers, and non-native English speakers. By making title registration as easy as taking a photo, we aim to eliminate process inefficiencies, boost accuracy, and help both residents and auto title companies focus on what matters most: getting people on the road.
