SPLASHDOWN returns!

After being cancelled in 2020, COVID restrictions and ever changing weather couldn’t keep teams of engineering undergrads from taking on the Splashdown challenge! Four teams worked through rain and shine to create cardboard crafts to cross the Rice Rec Center competition pool with varying success.  RCEL Student Leadership worked hard to bring the spring recruiting event to life amid the ever changing COVID restrictions, and pulled off a successful event!  Way to go team!

RCEL event introduces engineering students to patent law

The virtual event was sponsored by the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL) and the Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease law firm, which has offices in seven cities in the United States, including Houston. Three patent attorneys and two patent agents — both Rice graduates — from the firm served as instructors.

RCEL course allows students to explore career options with industry leaders

New technology TA positions empower students to partner with professors

Based on his experience transitioning to dual-delivery classes when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the spring, Tom Phalen — a Professor in the Practice in the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL) — knew the juggling act that hybrid courses demand: delivering quality material in class while also managing the technical aspects of online learning tools like Canvas and Zoom.
